WHAT IS HYDRO-X

Hydro-Excavation is a safe, productive and non-destructive excavation method using high pressure water and vacuum to excavate soil safely around underground utilities.  Uncovering underground utilities by mechanical means can be complicated and dangerous, in addition, hand-digging is time consuming and labor intensive.  In Michigan, the safe zone is 60 inches.  The safe zone referes to the area in which an excavator must stay away from marked utilities unless hand-digging or using nonabrasive excavation equipment. 

Michigan has over 93,000 miles of hazardous liquid and natural gas pipelines compared to a national average of only 52,000 miles.  This does not include miles of underground electrical lines, cables, telecommunication lines, fiber optics, water pipes or sewer lines.  With the growth and expansion in the telecom industry, right of ways are getting congested making upgrades or repairs more difficult.  When damage to underground utilities can cost several thousand dollars, beign aware of what awaits you before you dig is more important then ever before.
